Michael Phelps: Olympic Athlete Living in Ann Arbor

Michael Phelps, the eight-time medalist in the Athens Olympics, resides in Ann Arbor. Even so, I'm not sure we can claim him as Michigan's own. For one thing, he's known as the Baltimore Bullet. We could give him a new Michigan moniker, of course, but word on the street is that he plans to return to native Maryland with Coach Bob Bowman after the Beijing Olympics.

For this moment in time, though, he's training for the 2008 Olympics at Club Wolverine with the hopes of beating Mark Spitz's seven-gold Olympic record. How about we think of him as an honorary Michigander?
