Consequences: McCain Pulls Out of Michigan

Friday October 3, 2008
The McCain campaign has made the decision to pull out of the state. What does that mean? It means no more TV ads, mailings or new campaign offices in the state. This decision, however, needs to be taken in context. According to the Wall Street Journal, McCain's decision to fight for Michigan in the first place, in spite of the fact Michigan went for Kerry in 2004, was to spread Obama's resources thin. In fact, Obama has scaled back his resources in other states as part of an overall campaign strategy.

Even so, the actual pulling out of resources from Michigan this close to the election seems to be conceding defeat in the state. As we all know, the presidential race brings more voters to the poll than other elections. If your candidate in effect concedes defeat in your state, do you bother to go to the polls? Does it affect your preference for candidate? You tell me.
