This Day in Detroit History: Greenfield Village Opens in 1929

Amid bright lights and fanfare, Henry Ford hosted the Lights Golden Jubilee, an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Thomas Edison's light bulb. In addition to Edison, several celebrities of the day attended, including J.P. Morgan, Marie Curie, Orville Wright, Will Rogers, President Herbert Hoover and John D. Rockefeller, Jr. This coincided with the opening of Greenfield Village and the Edison Institute, what would eventually become known as The Henry Ford Museum.
