Angel's Night in Detroit: Curfew and Programs

Thursday October 30, 2008

Detroit's Devil's Night was traditionally celebrated through mischief and pranks on the eve before Halloween on October 30th. When the hijinks escalated to arson and property damage in the early 1990s, however, City of Detroit officials rechristened the evening as Angel's Night in 1995.

These days, Angel's Night officially runs from October 29th through the 31st and involves over 50,000 volunteers, who participate in Neighborhood Patrol, Adopt-a-House, Porch Light, and Eyes and Ears Programs.

An Angel's Night curfew is also in place: no kids under the age of 18 can be on the streets of Detroit without a parent or guardian from 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 30th, until 6:00 a.m. on the 31st.
