Michigan Election: Voting Irregularities
Wednesday November 5, 2008
The wide margin by which Obama won the state means that there is little cause to question the end result. Even so, as voters, we need to remain vigilant regarding voting irregularities, which while occurring in percentages similar to other elections, still need to be investigated and corrected:
- Several Oakland County optical scanners failed pre-election tests
- Language barriers and procedural errors resulted in disenfranchised Arab-American voters in Dearborn
- Students were turned away at MSU because of discrepancies between their home and school addresses
- Computer malfunctions
More Information:
- Machine malfunctions, voter intimidation reported by Doug Guthrie, Santiago Esparza, Maureen Feighan and Tom Greenwood / The Detroit News (11/4/08)
- Voter complaints flooding in by Kim North Shine and Joe Swickard / Detroit Free Press (11/4/08)
Did you experience any voting problems?
