Michigan Payphones: An Art Form?
Tuesday July 7, 2009
The idea of the Payphone-Project website seemed practical to me at first; but then I thought, if you are stranded somewhere without a cell phone, chances are you don't have an internet connection to look up the closest payphone.
So, what is the purpose behind the site?
If you're all about common sense, I suppose you could look up payphone locations in your area so you have some idea where to find one when emergency dictates. For website-creator Mark Thomas, however, his effort at listing payphone numbers started off as an art project, a way to chronicle the quickly-becoming-obsolete payphone in the age of cell phones. Think about it: payphones are not that easy to find anymore.
Thomas himself used his knowledge to touch people at random by calling a payphone number and playing his classical piano music to any odd stranger who answered. Whatever your purpose in looking up area payphones, you can find them listed on the Michigan page of Payphone-Project.com.
