Wheelhouse Detroit Tours
Wheelhouse teams with community partner organizations so that each tour is informative, as well as scenic. Most of the scheduled tours take place on Saturdays (with an occasional Sunday and weekday evening) and average about three hours. That being said, the actual mileage covered in each tour varies from five to twenty-five miles. The tours also cover over 25 different themes and neighborhoods. For instance, 2010 tours include Public Art, Eastern Market, Urban Agriculture, Hamtramck, Detroit in the Movies, Historic Detroit Churches, and Belle Isle. Prices are $25 to $35, depending on whether you need to rent a bike. If none of the scheduled tours excite, you can just rent a bike on your own from Wheelhouse (located at Rivard Plaza on the Detroit RiverWalk) for $10 to $15 an two hours. You can also create your own group/family tour with a Wheelhouse guide.
Detroit Bikes!
The best part of Detroit Bikes! neighborhood tours is that they are free. They are also somewhat randomly scheduled throughout the year. For 2010, bike tours are scheduled approximately two times a month and include Bike the Bridge, Tour de Dearborn, Woodward Pedal Cruise and Tour De Troit. They bike tours generally begin at 10 a.m. and average four hours in length, which means they require planning and endurance. Detroit Bikes! is a project hosted by Detroit Synergy.
