Detroit is increasingly known for its art community. Over 30 galleries call the metro Detroit area home. There are also at least two art schools in Metro Detroit that specialize in art, design and media.

Detroit: College for Creative Studies

Over 1200 students attend the College for Creative Studies, most of whom attend on a full-time basis. Only about 20% of the students live on campus. The college offers bachelor's of fine arts degrees in nine undergraduate programs, the most popular of which are Industrial design, Communications Design, and Animation and Digital Media.

Admissions: GPA 3.22

Yearly tuition: Approximately $20,000

Bloomfield Hills: Cranbrook Academy of Art

Approximately 150 full-time students study in one of ten programs, including fiber, painting, design and architecture. The Academy offers mostly graduate and professional degrees. Artists in residence, as well as their students, reside on campus.

Admissions: Only eight new students a year

Yearly tuition: Approximately $22,000
