Let the 2013 holiday season officially begin! While retailers sometimes start the season before Halloween, the holiday spirit really starts getting serious when communities and cities all across the Metro-Detroit area have their Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies. And as long as there is a big crowd gathered...let’s have some fun!

  • Ann Arbor: Kerrytown Market & Shops Annual Tree Lighting Festival
    Sunday (12/1/13), Kerrytown
    Featuring: Carols, candle luminaries and Santa

  • Birmingham: Tree Lighting Ceremony, Shain Park
    Wednesday (11/27/13) at 6 PM
    Featuring: Santa, Christmas caroling, choirs, and horse-drawn carriage rides

  • Canton: 35th Annual tree Lighting, Summit on the Park
    Wednesday (12/4/13) from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
    $5 per family
    Featuring: Santa, entertainment, crafts, and refreshments

  • Chelsea: Santa Lighting Christmas Tree, Pierce Park
    Friday (12/6/13)
    Featuring: The tree lighting is part of Chelsea's Hometown Holiday, a three-day event with a light parade, holiday carol concert and Santa's Workshop.

  • Detroit: Holiday Tree Lighting
    Friday (11/22/13) at 7:30 PM
    Event runs from 5 PM to midnight
    Featuring: Santa, ice skating, 20 live performances, family fun tent, $5 carriage rides, food, drink and shopping

  • Farmington: Tree Lighting at Warner Mansion
    Saturday (12/7/13) at 5:30 PM
    Featuring: The tree lighting is part of Farmington's Holly Days that includes carolers, hot chocolate, shopping, holiday movies at Farmington Civic Theater, Santa and roving bands. The mansion itself features people in Victorian dress, piano entertainment and refreshments.

  • Grosse Pointe: The Village Aglow Tree Lighting Ceremony
    Friday (11/22/13) at 5:30 PM, The Village
    Featuring: Live reindeer, refreshments, and holiday songs

  • Livonia: Tree Lighting & Caroling Ceremony
    Tuesday (12/3/13) at 7 PM, Livonia City Hall & Civic Center Library
    Featuring: Hot chocolate, cookies, magic show, crafts, sing-a-long carols, and Santa

  • Mt. Clemens: 23rd Annual Christmas Open House and Tree Lighting
    Friday (11/22/13) at 6 PM
    Tree lighting is part of Open House that runs from 5 PM to 9 PM.
    Featuring: Santa arrives by horse-drawn sleigh at 6 PM, and guests can treat themselves to a horse-drawn trolley rides. There will also be refreshments and children's activities.

  • Rochester: The Big, Bright Light Show
    Debuts on Monday (12/2/13) during Lagniappe at 7 PM in downtown Rochester 
    Continues through January 5th, 2014.
    Featuring: Big, bright lights covering the buildings of Main Street

  • Troy: Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
    Wednesday (12/4/13) from 7 to 8:30 PM
    Veterans Plaza in front of City Hall, 500 W. Big Beaver
    Featuring: School choirs, sing alongs, hot cocoa and Santa

  • Utica: Christmas Tree Lighting
    Sunday (12/1/13) at 6 PM
    Featuring: Santa

  • Wyandotte: Tree Lighting
    Friday (11/15/13) at 6 PM, Biddle Avenue, downtown
    Featuring: Carols, entertainment, free trolley, and carriage rides

  • Ypsilanti: Starlight Spree and Tree Lighting
    Friday (11/30/12), 6 to 8 PM, downtown
    Featuring: Choirs, Christmas Carols, hot chocolate and Santa
