History:
A successful example of new urbanism, The Village of Rochester Hills is a Robert B. Aikens and Associates development designed to mimic a small town shopping area. The mall has a main street, sidewalks and along-the-street parking. It was built on the site of a former mall, Meadowbrook Village.Today:
The street is lined on either side with 50 shops and restaurants traditionally seen only in enclosed malls. The area's two anchors, Parisian and Whole Foods, are positioned at either end of the main drag, which also has several off shoots, including parks, a children's play area, a fountain, clock tower and gazebo. Like traditional small cities, the village hosts several events throughout the year, including ice-sculpture and art festivals. Dining options include Bravo! Cucino Italiano, Cosi, Mitchell's Fish Market and Kruse & Muer. There are also large parking areas behind the stores.
