Football may bring Michigan's major colleges and universities the most attention, but students at these schools have performed equally well (sometimes better) in several other sports. According to NCAA.com, the nationally ranked Michigan College Sports and Athletics in 2009 include:

University of Michigan

While ranked nationally in several sports, the U of M Wolverines are ranked in the top five for Men's Ice Hockey, Men's Swimming & Diving, Men's Golf and Men's Gymnastics.

Michigan State University

While ranked nationally in several sports, the Michigan State Spartans are ranked in the top ten for Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer and Women's Rowing. MSU is also ranked 18th in Football.

Central Michigan University

While ranked nationally in several sports, the CMU Chippewas are ranked in the top ten for Men's Wrestling.

Western Michigan University

Volleyball, ranked 25th nationally

Northern Michigan University

Men’s Ice Hockey, ranked 31st nationally

Ferris State University

Men’s Ice Hockey, ranked 35th nationally

University of Detroit-Mercy

Men's Lacrosse, ranked 57th nationally (RPI)
Women's Lacrosse, ranked 78th nationally (RPI)
